Fortune Cookie

"Fortune Cookie" - digital collage
It seems as though my fortunes from my fortune cookies frequently hit home. This was my fortune from dinner tonight. You can tell it's authentic by the incorrect grammar. ;-)

Pink Bunny

"Pink Bunny" - mixed media collage

Pink Bunny is finally finished and soon will be on her way to her new home with Maria Lucia who is the new baby girl of my good friends Mary Beth and Rich. I wish I could take the painting myself, but the United States Postal Service will just have to do.

Pink & Green

The pink bunny for Maria Lucia is still a work in progress.
Getting back to the painting for Maria Lucia; as I suspected, the rediscovered green stamped paper in my sketch book makes a lovely background for the pink rabbit and butterfly. I was mixing paints together one day to form a specific shade of aqua and I was failing miserably. So, I took the mixture and painted it onto a stamp that I had carved into a piece of styrofoam and stamped it into my sketchbook and rather forgot about it until I was working on this project. I'm so glad I saved this! I think this piece is developing nicely, if I do say so myself. :D

In The Pink

Tonight I constructed this little pink butterfly to go with yesterday's pink bunny. I also discovered what I think could be the perfect green background while flipping through my sketchbook. I was making an attempt at mixing up greens for another project and I stamped the mixture onto a page in my sketchbook with a styrofoam stamp which I'd carved some time ago. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will all come together as I've imagined in my mind.

Tapestry Butterfly

I think I must be going through a butterfly stage. I guess it could be worse.

Peace Butterfly

Wednesday morning, while having breakfast, I decided to take this little butterfly which I recently created and turn her into something useable or wearable. You can find products with her likeness at the following links.

Mugs & stuff

Cool, homey things

All kinds of bags

All styles of T-shirts

After I did that, it was time for lunch. I call that a good morning's work.

Butterfly

I get a little antsy when I haven't created anything in a while and to cure that antsy feeling I made a little digitally collaged butterfly tonight. The finished version is above, the Tangy Zoodle I began with is below, and what happened in between is a complete mystery! ;-)

Just A Little Bit Further Along

Little by little this project is inching its way along. I even find myself working on it in the middle of the night when I've wakened momentarily. (The downside of keeping an art project alive in your bedroom!)

Happiness

I'm attempting to do more art journaling these days and I've decided to use some of my favorite quotes and "me-isms" as the subject of these journal pages. This particular "me-ism" is one of my favorites and came as pure enlightenment when I finally figured this one out and applied it to my life.

The journal page began with the quote written on a lightweight piece of kraft paper which was glued onto the page with other scraps of the same kraft paper. Circles were inscribed with a compass and then I tangy-zoodled them up. A watercolor wash was applied by using watercolor pencils and then applying water with a brush. Last, and certainly not least, is a butterfly that I cut freehand from a clothing catalog and then accented liberally with glitter glue.

Garden Gate

Back to the Savannah Series. This particular collage incorporates photography as well as zentangle technique. It's all coming together!

Two Suns

"Two Suns" - 8x12 - Mixed Media Collage

You've probably guessed by now that sunflowers are among my favorite flowers to showcase in my collage works. They are so much fun to do and the paper combinations to depict them are endless. But by far my favorite paper for making sunflowers is the orange-yellow paper with the ants printed all over it. I swear that someday I'll create an album of all the paintings in which I've included that paper!

Butterfly Waltz

"Butterfly Waltz" - 4x5 - Mixed Media Collage

I'm sure you've caught on to the fact that I love using sheet music in my collages. Much of the music I use comes from Bach's Two-Part Inventions; the book that I learned from as a child. This little snippet in 3/8 time reminds me of a fast waltz. After all, butterflies don't move slowly.

Not For Sale
Over the weekend I experimented with a different technique and I really like the way it turned out. I discovered that an even more textural look could be achieved by layering oil pastels over textured paper; in this case, ogura lace. (My fave!)

And I've become so smitten with this little girl that for the time being she'snot for sale. Pygmalion syndrome, I know, but what are you going to do?

Hydrangea Crabulata

"Hydrangea Crabulata" - 10x10 - Mixed Media Collage

I've done so many paintings of hydrangeas over time that I've run out of names. So, I decided to name my own variety. Of course my special hybrid has seed pearls growing in the flower centers.
