Special Birthday Card

I just had to share the special birthday card I made for my little brother for his birthday last week. I remember clearly the day he was born and how excited I was to have a little brother. Little did I know then just how exasperating little brothers could be! Oh, but did he ever create memories that we all laugh hysterically over today!

French Daydreams Note Card

OK. So I decided to incorporate a rubber stamp in this note card as well. In truth, it's probably not my favorite note card, but, it has a certain charm. 

Cupcake Note Card

But, of course I made note cards last week. I had a great time making this one. Upon checking out at Michael's a few days prior to its creation, I had to go past the $1.00 bins on my way to the check out counters. Those bins are irresistible! I found cupcake rubber stamps! I bought one for myself and one for my eight-year-old niece, Georgia. 

As you can see, I made it the focal point for this very fun "scrap collage" which has all things in it. I wonder who the unsuspecting recipient of this card will be! :D

Therapy

I don't know whether or not you've guessed this, but making collaged note cards is therapeutic for me. Whether I'm using it as a studio warm up or specifically spending an entire studio session making note cards, I find that I can truly escape into the right side of my brain and put these together without thinking. I rummage through all my scraps and start assembling by color and shape. And then, of course, comes lots of glitter! You know I love glitter.

And I use these cards, too. For birthdays, anniversaries, thank you's, condolences. And I also include a free note card with every Etsy purchase! ;)

Although I make them available for purchase at my art shows for $5.00 a piece, they are not available online. Sorry.

Playing Around

It's been a while since I've had a chance to play around with scraps making note cards, but the opportunity arose the other day. I find it incredibly relaxing.

Mauve Note Card

Another note card. This time using a lavender-ish fiber paper. Actually, it's hard to even call it paper. It's just a lot of fibers loosely woven together. It kind of, sort of reminds me of shredded wheat. Also in this note card is my now infamous "scream" paper. So called because it reminds my friend Denny of Edvard Munch's "The Scream." Once she told me that, I could see it plain as day. As beautiful as the paper is, I will now always associate it with that famous painting.

Note Card With Ants & Circles

I'm having way too much fun with these note cards. Lot's of cheery colors in this one, too! The circles are made from some sort of pages from a book over which I've melted crayons. That's always fun to do. Oh, and the very bottom paper is a piece that I made some years back. You can pretty much tell when I've made the paper because invariably you'll see glitter in it! I haven't made paper in awhile. All my paper making tools are in the attic. I think it might just be time to unpack them and have some fun again!

Another Red Note Card

I'm not sure how I've gotten into the habit of using either unryu or banana paper as the base for my little note card abstracts, but I have. I guess I just like it! I'm intrigued by the plant fibers that run through it and the way the edges get all fuzzy when you rip it. That's the best part about these Thai papers, ripping them. Their fibrous edges make them appear even more beautiful when you do that.

I think my note cards are some how becoming my equivalent of daily paintings! They're fun and quick to do, they serve as a warm up before I get started on my "serious art" and ultimately, they prove to be useful! So I'll probably share many, many more of them. (You have been warned!)
