Different Worlds, Mixed Media Collage, 11x14

This is an older piece of mine. I created it five years ago and it is now a part of my own collection and perfectly illustrates my current status.( I can't believe how long it's been since I've published a post!)

For the first time in 14 years, I've taken a job outside the studio. Fortunately, when I left work 14 years ago to take up art full time, I made a conscientious effort to stay in touch with the left side of my brain and to make sure that it didn't become idle. I had a feeling that I might need it again some day; and I was right. My new position is completely left-brained. For the time being I'm only working part-time which gives me some time to adjust to office work again. I'm trying to balance my "different worlds" and find time for work, housework, husband, dog, kids and art work.

I know that if I don't make time to create art, I'll die. Maybe not physically, but certainly emotionally. I also know that there are a lot of you out there who work full time and make lots of artwork, too, so I'm not whining; I promise! I'm just adjusting. Any advice you have to share will be greatly received.

I hear you Kristeena! I find ( most of the time) that the first thing I do (after I get the kids off to school) is an hour of art before I have to go to work.
I would die too emotionally if I didn't get in that hour.
I don't know what you do for work, but I try to get art into my daily work as well. ( I work at an art museum so its not too hard) But anything we do can be an art-even being kind. Somehow I think you are already there!
I love this collage. Makes me want to go out to my studio and make one!

This is beautiful and incorporates a favorite color harmony of mine. Good luck. You have the right attitude for keep in the zone.

Thanks, Mary!

And Sally, what a beautiful thought; being kind can be art. I love that.

The other day I was vigorously vacuuming my sofa and when I was finished and looked at it with all its cushions plumped up, I felt I'd created art there, too! :D

And that is why you knew how I felt when I found out I cleaned my house before I left for Florida :D
