Escape

An ivory tower sounds good about now. Sometimes I think Rapunzel had it pretty good. There are days when I'd love to be locked up in my ivory tower with no one to disturb me and no responsibilities outside my little room. And if the handsome prince came around and cried to me to let down my hair, I wouldn't. Fortunately my hair isn't at all that long.

Occasionally, my son and his girlfriend take long weekends and/or vacations that are nothing less than retreats. They meditate, practice yoga and eat healthy, whole foods. I would love that. Sometimes I think a week in a convent where no talking is allowed would be great, too. My sister-in-law did that once.

Of course, it would be cheaper if I just conducted a retreat like this at home, on my own; but I'm not sure how to enforce it. I would start by turning off my phone. And I would not leave my room except to go for my morning walk and my meals; all of which would be highly nutritious; absolutely no junk. And I'd be in bed early every night and get up early every morning. The time spent in my room would be in reading, writing and creating art. I frequently need my computer to create my artwork, but I could turn off my internet connection. The more I think about it, the better this is sounding to me. I just need a long weekend; a week would be even better.

Bottom line is this: I'm tired, I'm weary, I need some time off. I'm just not sure how to orchestrate it.

Enchanted Island

The coast of Georgia is blessed with its barrier items, each with its own special charms. I was fortunate to be able to attend the annual Pig Roast on Ossabaw Island this past weekend, which was sponsored by the Ossabaw Island Foundation. (Click here for more information.)

The following are photos and one short video that I snapped that day.

Starry Night

"Starry Night"

I created this image nearly a year ago and then I apparently forgot all about it. I just rediscovered it and thought it was too cute to be ignored. Therefore I've resurrected this frosty little snowman, named the image "Starry Night" (because of some good natured kidding from a good friend) and put it on Christmas cards, note cards, coffee mugs and a beer stein. I think it's just adorable (dig those crazy Northern Lights) and don't be surprised if you see me using this as my Christmas card this year. (Although you can be very surprised if I send out Christmas cards at all!)

Seahorse Notecards

I've been meaning for some time to lend my seahorse designs to notecards and finally I'm able to cross this task off of my "to do" list.  I think both of these guys make for charming stationery.

Christmas Designs

A Tangled Christmas Tree

Working at a Christmas shop, I'm only too aware of how close Christmas really is. 71 days from today to be exact! So, in anticipation I've created new greeting cards for this year's holiday season. And I've put my designs on coffee mugs and beer steins, too. Have a look and you may find the perfect gift for someone on your list.

Big Picture Update

I'm slowly, but surely, making progress on the project for my mother which I refer to as the "big picture." Although I like working big like this, I'm not so sure that I'm crazy about working on canvas. The texture creates a drag on the markers of which I'm not very fond. I think next time, and there will be a next time, I might opt for a large piece of Rives BFK for printmaking. It's my all time favorite paper and I don't need much of an excuse to find a reason to buy it!

Annual Wiener Dog Races

Today was a day for dogs and I'm all about that. I've heard about the annual wiener dog races in Savannah as part of the Oktoberfest celebration, but I had never experienced it. At least, that is, not until this morning. Perfect weather heralded this canine craziness and I was happy to have had my camera with me. I hope you'll enjoy the photos I snapped while there.
