Improved Sea Samples

In getting ready for upcoming art shows, I decided a couple of my "sea samples" could do with some additional "glam"! Above is the new and improved "Sea Sample 3" while below is the original version.

And here you see the original version of "Sea Sample 4".

And this is the glamorized version of the same collage. I think the new versions are prettier, don't you?

Art of the City Part 2

When you're one of 8+ million, how do you stand out from the crowd?

While in New York City last weekend I collected examples of personal advertising among a few other souvenirs, such as visitor's passes to the Met and a movie stub.

Art of the City

New York City is a circus for the senses. The sights, the sounds, the smells are fantastically overwhelming. I made a visit this past weekend and realized that I had been away for far too long.

So, without rhyme or reason, with no order or explanation, I offer some of the sights that assailed my senses during my weekend in the city that's like nowhere else in the world.

New Blog Look

Because I have as much fun changing the look of my blog as I do posting to it, I've created this new banner in keeping with the season.

New Life to Old Paintings

"Summer Flowers" - Digital Collage
I was recently reviewing an old photo album I have of my early works when I ran across the image below. It was a pastel painting that I created in the summer of 1998 and I called it "The Colors of Summer." What is particularly special about this painting is that I painted it in a fit of frustration with myself. I was beginning to think I was never going to get anywhere with my art and I was determined to create something especially lovely. And this became the first painting that I ever sold! This was before I started to keep detailed records of my artwork so I don't know its exact dimensions, but I think it was about 11x14 and framed 16x20. I shake my head to think I only sold it for $125!

I remember the night well, it was at the opening reception of the annual juried show of the local art association which I belonged to at the time. I raced home from the opening and emailed my parents, "I'm a real live artist!"

Ah, memories!

Busy Day

I have been meaning to create a calendar for 2012, but because of the work involved I have been procrastinating. Today; however, I was faced with a "to do" list that looked a little dreary. When a friend suggested I create note cards from the Fleur de Lis Pumpkin (see last post) I went to Cafe Press and opened a new section in "shop crabulous!" with gift items in the pumpkin design. So... since I was there anyway, I created a calendar.

It took much longer than I thought. 11 of the 12 images needed to be re-sized in order to get a full bleed and then I needed add text to the cover art. I'm not complaining, though. I would have rather spent the day doing that than any of the other things on my "to do" list.

In keeping with the spirit of the season I came up with this digital collage.

Sketchbook #7

Sketchbook Cover #7

This is the final sketchbook whose cover I'll be decorating before the Holiday Art Show. I love sketchbooks and I love these pretty covers. It's going to be difficult for me to part with them! ;)

"Turquoise Dragonfly"

"Turquoise Dragonfly" 4x4 Mixed Media Collage

It's been an exciting week so far. I was notified that two pieces of my artwork were accepted in the Open Gallery of the 17th Annual Telfair Art Fair next month in Savannah, Georgia:  Telfair Art Fair And then today I had artwork accepted into a new gallery in Milford, Delaware whose grand opening will take place next month: Angelucci Gallery

And the little dragonfly depicted above will make his debut at The Artsy Girls Guild Holiday Art Show on November 11 and 12 in Elkton, Maryland.

"Gingko Leaves"

"Gingko Leaves" - 12x12 - Mixed Media Collage
This is the last largish "anchor" piece for the November shows. At this point my artwork will be exhibited in two shows in November and maybe a third. I'm supposed to know by October 15 about the third one. If I look a little blue it's because I've been holding my breath! ;)

And in other news, the name of this blog has been changed from "a crabulous life!" to "crabulous fine art." The URL; however, remains the same.
