Art For The Soul

Too often I'm caught up with thinking about the commercial value of my art and too seldom do I create art just to satisfy my soul. This week I decided to work in my art journal; something I haven't done since June. Once something is created in my journal it never leaves. It stays there forever as my personal possession so the only person I need to please is me. I had picked up some new journaling techniques from another blog and I couldn't wait to try them out. Sorry I didn't photograph it step by step, I'll try to remember that next time.

There's something about this double page spread that personally satisfies me; and this week I'm the only one I want to satisfy. It involves a lot of paint, stamping and line work; all things I don't use very often in my works for sale. And I love the color combination. There are certain areas where the colors come together and excite me and other areas that I find soothing. I truly believe that certain colors can elevate our moods or increase our awareness. Colors have had a great affect on me ever since I was a little child.

So I hope you'll indulge me while I enjoy this piece of purely selfish art. :-D

This was such an inspiring entry for me. I actually got all choked up while reading it. Because I've been so busy, I haven't written anything in my journal since the end of July. You made me homesick for the place where I can be myself and reminded me of how valuable it is to just do something you love because you love it.

Kristeena,

Beautiful, these art journal pages! And Picasso's words are only too true, at least for us artists, but also art lovers in general: it is art that puts a glow on everything and without art the world would be a very sad place. Come to think of it I think it is the passion of the artist that shows in his work, probably this causes the glow. Im no professional as you may notice, for there certainly are profound theories on this subject; but this is what I like to believe. Thanks for your comment on my blog, hope to see your digital collages some day!

This is a beautiful piece, Kristeena! I love your multi-layered pieces. Looking at all the nooks and crannies of the layers, one finds all kinds of pleasant surprises. I love that! Thank you for your comment at my blog. Yes, I tend to work on certain pieces over an extended period, but really, there are only a couple that I put aside so many years ago and only recently came back to. The piece I was talking about I have maybe 60 or so hours in it and I will finish it this week. I haven't worked on it off and on over those years. It just sat there in my studio until I became interested in it again. I'm not sure what that says about me! I love your work!!

Love the little bit of darks in this one - and the pattern. . .
