The Latest Collaged Note Cards

I was very good last week at creating a new note card every day. They are something I use all the time when sending a birthday or greeting card and an item I sell whenever I'm doing an outdoor show. Some customers have caught on to the idea that for $5.00 they can go home with a piece of original, frame-able artwork!

website update with retro, resume, zentangles

Keeping my website updated is one of those necessary but thankless tasks that must be done on a regular basis in order to keep the world current with what you're doing. Whenever I meet someone, I hand them my business card and the only contact info on that card is my website. So, it needs to be current and it needs to look good.

Every email I send has my stock signature at the bottom of the page and within my signature is the address of my website. So, it needs to be current and it needs to look good.

In fact, everything I do to promote my artwork ultimately comes back to my website. So, it needs to be current and it needs to look good.

I recently added three more pages to my website. I have decided that I want to more aggressively pursue art tutoring positions and I thought it would be helpful to future employers if they could see that my personal art history is not only about collage. There was a long period of time where I painted landscapes and still life using soft pastel. So, I've included a page that is a mini retrospective of my artwork.

I also felt it was important to include a page with images of my Zentangle work; especially since this is a technique I plan to use if given the opportunity to teach drawing.

And last, but certainly not least, I felt it important to also have my resume listed on my website. I have discovered that this is just as important to gallery owners and show sponsors as it is to prospective tutoring clients.

Updating the website is a time consuming, laborious task, but it's one that every artist needs to do.

New Handmade Note Cards

I love making note cards. I try to complete a new one at every studio session. It's a great warm up for the days' collaging tasks. Here are two recent ones!

City Hall - The Savannah Series

"City Hall" - 5x7 - Mixed Media Collage - $35
I'm still working on my collection of pieces celebrating Savannah. The subject of this piece is an enhanced digital photo of Savannah's historic city hall and the flowers surrounding it are my interpretation of the Georgia state flower, the Cherokee rose.

Tangy Zoodle

As you read in an earlier post of mine, I've become fascinated with the drawing technique known as Zentangle and expect to do more with these techniques. I also decided to take the designs I've already created and upload them to my shop on Cafe Press (shop crabulous!) and have them used on tile coasters. I also wanted to give my designs a unique name, but with a nod to Zentangle. Of course the word, doodle, came to mine and that progressed to "zoodle" and that brought back a memory.

Back in the 80's my husband purchased our first cabin cruiser, a 24' Bayliner. It was just big enough for the two of us and our two toddlers and we spent many a weekend on our boat, which we called "Valkyrie."

We made a lot of boating friends and we were frequently hailing each other over the VHF radios on our boats to locate each other and make plans to hook up. Whenever you hail another boat, you always give the name of your boat as well and the call number of your radio license. Our license number began with the letters WTZ which are always spoken as "whisky," "tango," "zulu."

Apparently our youngest, who was two at the time, absorbed all of this radio hailing activity and one day as we were closing the boat up for the weekend, he made his way to the cockpit, withdrew the radio mic from its holder (fortunately the radio was turned off) and started calling into the microphone, "Tangy zoodle, tangy zoodle, tangy zoodle!)

It's a phrase that has been permanently embedded in my brain for the past 26 years and I can't think of a more perfect name for my Zen tangled doodles, can you?
