Fortune Cookie

"Fortune Cookie" - digital collage
It seems as though my fortunes from my fortune cookies frequently hit home. This was my fortune from dinner tonight. You can tell it's authentic by the incorrect grammar. ;-)

Time & Silence

Once this post is published, it will appear as an echoing theme on my Facebook timeline tonight. I've lost track of how the publishing sequence goes, but Twitter is involved as well as Facebook.

At any rate, this statement really resonates with me. I feel as though I'm all the time breathing in and forgetting to breathe out. I really must take up yoga again, soon!

Fancy Shoes

"Fancy Shoes" - Digital Collage
This image actually came about while working on the "secret project." It didn't work for the project and I almost forgot about it until the recent rage of brightly multicolored shoes started appearing on the market recently. I can't claim any credit since this image has been hiding on my computer.

Tapestry Butterfly

I think I must be going through a butterfly stage. I guess it could be worse.

Bowl Of Cherries - Digital Collage

Maybe I have just a little too much fun with technology, but making digital collages is something I just love to do. The image above is the marriage of the two images below.

Butterfly

I get a little antsy when I haven't created anything in a while and to cure that antsy feeling I made a little digitally collaged butterfly tonight. The finished version is above, the Tangy Zoodle I began with is below, and what happened in between is a complete mystery! ;-)

From Green To Orange

"Orange Lizard" - digital collage
Remember that cute little lizard from yesterday? Well, I couldn't keep myself from playing with his photo. I love creating digital collages and producing unusual effects. This is the finished product, but below are all the layers and elements I used to create it.

Top Layer
Middle Layer - "Tangy Zoodle #35"

Bottom Layer - "Bomomo #018"

2014 Calendar

As you know, I like to put together a wall calendar every year. Well, at least I've done it for the past two years so now I feel like it's a tradition. Although I would have like to have had next year's calendar finished in August, it just wasn't meant to be, so I'm working on it now. I'm having a great time with the new images, too. So, I thought I'd treat you to a sneak preview. This is the image that I think I'll be using for April.

Pink

Exploring the concept of digital art journaling. I'm part of an art journaling group on Facebook and I'm learning all kinds of things from this group. It has been such an inspiration to me.

Society 6

At last, I found a vehicle through which to exhibit and sell my digital collages. I hope you'll take a look. Thanks!  (Society 6)

"Vidalia" - digital collage

"Vidalia" - digital collage

Remember this onion sketch from last week?

I used this old Bomomo design as the background

And then to that I added this photo of a skeleton leaf which I'd painted in metallic paint. Of course, I then took away all color, then added some back. And when I was happy with the background, I applied the onion on top of the other layers.

White Butterflies Digital Collage

"White Butterflies" - Digital Collage
I'm visiting with my son who lives in Brooklyn and occasionally find that I have a little time to kill in the mornings. I decided this is a perfect time to work on some digital collages which I haven't done in awhile. This new one is definitely Brooklyn inspired. There's a wonderful coffee shop located near the Graham Street subway station and it has this great wallpaper in it. The moment I saw it I just knew it would make the perfect background for a digital collage.

The butterflies came from a recent note card that I created.

I love the way my laptop becomes my studio when I can't be in my studio!

Secret Project Resumes

Detail from the "Secret Project"
The artwork for Yellow Springs is completed, so now I can get back to the "secret project" that I've mentioned from time to time for the past couple of years. This time I'm resuming with a vigor. We've decided to take a different approach and we're determined to have it completed before the end of this year. And by "we" I'm referring to my collaborator and me. I'm not suddenly referring to myself in the first person plural.

The image above is just a detail from the new image I created today; sorry I can't share the whole thing... just be patient a while longer.

Roman Coliseum

"Roman Coliseum" - digital collage

This is just another digital collage from my collection of photos from Italy. If nothing else, it's a nice trip down memory lane for me.

Mars - God of War

"Mars - God of War" - Digital Collage
Wandering through the streets of Rome one fine day, I happened upon this bad boy. He was locked away behind the gates of a private courtyard; which is probably a good thing, otherwise I'd have been all over him. Try as I might to get his attention, he kept his head arrogantly averted and paid me no heed. Thus, I was smitten! He's just the type of dangerous man who has proven to be many a woman's fatal flaw. After all, who could be more dangerous than Mars, the god of war? He was forever stirring up trouble and always falling in love. Yes, a very good thing he was kept behind locked gates! ;D

Another Bridge Across the Arno

"Another Bridge Across the Arno" - Digital Collage
One of my favorite artists, DJ Pettitt recently posted photos from the workshop she conducted in Orvieto, Italy this year (I adore that town). DJ teaches the art of altering photos, art journaling and bookmaking; all things of great interest to me. So, needless to say, I've been drooling. I've also been inspired to dig into my own photo album of Italy and play with my own photos. Back in 2002, when I visited Italy, I was still shooting 35 mm. In 11 days, I shot 11 rolls of film (yea, you do the math) and have treasured these photographs. Many of them have served as subjects for my artwork, and I know I'm going to have fun making digital collages from them, too.

This photo, taken in Florence, is of a bridge that runs directly parallel to the famous Ponte Vecchio. Florence is enchanting and my traveling companion, Annie, and I awoke early on a Saturday morning to engage in some plein air painting while the city still slept. Our memories are just priceless!

Delphinium & Poppies

"Delphinium & Poppies" - Digital Collage
I spent a very productive day in the studio. It's time to begin new artwork for the 2012 Yellow Springs show. The catalog piece is due in one month and, of course, I want it to be my best work ever.

In addition to beginning five new canvases, I spent some time sketching ideas for the exhibit. It's in the spring and florals seem to be a very popular subject among the clientele. Since florals are really my best subject in any medium, I've decided to stick with that as my theme.

At the end of the day, I took the sketch below and combined it with one of my Bomomo images to create the digital collage above. I find this a perfect way to blow off steam at the end of the day.

"Dolles Salt Water Taffy"

"Dolles Salt Water Taffy" - Digital Collage
For years I've been wanting to make images of the local landmarks in my area and I've decided that digital collage may very well be the best approach for me. So, here is my first attempt with the beloved Dolles Salt Water Taffy on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
